the dining room, take two

With the living room upgrades that have been going on around here, we couldn’t just ignore the attached dining room. Girl needed a bit of love too.

Here is the dining room on inspection day, even before we moved in (with my ‘Pa and building inspector in tow).

And this is how the room looked about a year ago. A bunch of furniture that had been passed down to us from family when we moved in our pad, and a bevy of frames.

Then I tackled this crafty project for the room – stencilled curtains and my $10 curtain rod. I loved how they looked, but when we brought the geometric rug into the adjoining room, there was just too much pattern everywhere.

The stencilled curtains were tucked away for now and replaced with light white curtains (the Vivan ones from IKEA), and there was some furniture shifting. The pine hutch, which had been too big in the living room and was replaced with our new glass shelving unit, was brought over to the dining room. It’s a must-have piece in our little pad as it holds ALL of my arts/craft supplies – it’s like a studio in a box (organizing that bad boy needs a post all on its own). We couldn’t have the two hutches beside each other, so brought in the low dresser I had re-painted, which now holds all of our dining room things (linens, candles, etc).

The plant (a Benjamin Ficus) was a recent gift and we love how it balances out the hutch on the other side of the dresser and breathes some life into the room.

All in all, it feels a whole lot lighter and more breathable in here now, but there are still things I’d like to do to this space. I have dreams of building our own harvest table out of barn board, adding a jute rug, and possibly DIY’ing a big orb pendant light fixture. I’m also still on the fence about re-painting the walls, like I am for the living room.

So that’s where we are with the dining room. Still taking a while to get to that finished product (or maybe there won’t ever be a finished product for a house-tweaker like me?), but we’re getting there. It’s fun to work away at it!

Any living room makeovers in your neck of the woods recently? Or doing any furniture shifting between rooms? And since it’s the weekend, got any big plans? The hubby is working this weekend, so I have some girlfriend dates planned and some crafty projects on the go. Looking forward to it!

Looking great! Love the art that you hung for the dinning room and the chairs are really pretty.
