christmas up in the house

10th December 2012

You know that little Christmas party we had last weekend? Well I hadn’t done too much in the way of decorations beforehand, so wanted to throw a few things up to make it look festive. I don’t think we are going to do a tree this year, so I didn’t really want to pull out the big heavy tupperware bins from the garage full of our Christmas stuff if we weren’t going to use most of it (our garage is seriously over capacity… major organizing needed out there!).

So when I was strolling through IKEA a few weeks ago, I stumbled upon these cute vintage Santa Clauses. They are just brown paper bags – probably to be used for little Christmas loot bags – but I had other plans in mind.

I figured a little bunting of these bags would be super sweet. I got out some leftover jute string from an old project, and some clothespins.

About 5 minutes later, this is where we ended up. So easy and just makes me smile. Oh and those paper bags were around $2 if I’m remembering correctly, so this was a seriously low cost project (and one that I’ll be able to re-do every year).

Things like cookies and clementines always make things more festive, right?

I had these Christmas ornaments in a pretty accessible spot of the garage, so I grabbed them and just hung them from our chandelier. Again, so so easy.

Even the living room got a few little additions, like some stockings and greenery on the window and antler pillow on the couch.

Out little party definitely felt pretty cozy and festive – an example that it doesn’t take too much to inject that little magical feeling of the holidays. Okay, am I totally sounding like a cheesy holiday movie? Oh man. Sometimes I just can’t help myself.

What about you guys? Doing any decorating around your place? Have some favourites that you pull out every year? Are you getting a tree? And if so, are you in the fake tree or real tree camp?
