colour me pretty: pink + mint + gold

9th May 2013

Have you guys been noticing the pink + mint + gold colour combination popping up all over lately? I don’t know about you, but I’m swooning over here (I am even going in that colour direction with our nursery – see our plan here).

I love the fresh, airy, and feminine feeling of this colour combo. I think the key is to not have too much of any one colour, otherwise it gets overwhelming and too saturated — with a healthy dose of white or some other light neutral, the combo looks ridiculously gorgeous.

A few of my faves floating around on the big wide web…

What do you think? Digging it? Hating it? Too feminine maybe?  Love/Hate pink?

I love how the colour combination comes across in photos, but find that in real life, it too easily comes across as either Golden Girls or the dreaded “prissy”. I think the key to pulling this of is a light hand and not having mint and pink dominating the space. I also noticed that the rooms in these photos are flooded with bright white light. Would it look as good in a room that doesn’t get that much pure, white light all day? I think it’s lovely but I wouldn’t be able to carry it off in our home.

There is definitely a point where it can become a bit too Golden Girls for sure!! Totally agree with you, Stephanie. I think having huge doses of white and lots of natural light (like you point out) is really the key.

Definitely love/hate pink. And I even kind of love/hate this color combo. I’ve been wearing it a lot lately (like today!) but I add a little black to ground it.

Adding some black, or even grey tones, is a great idea!

White, grey or even a linen type colour would anchor this hot trio combo so well. Personally I love it done with lots of gold and then some pink with just little pops of mint. Nursery decor is my favourite. Our newest son, Edison has had his redone twice while the poor laundry room has had zero love…just not nearly as fun. Enjoy!

Hahah – love that! Thinking/planning for our nursery makeover has definitely been the most fun of any project I have tackled! And totally agree with you on the neutrals and linen type fabrics to ground the colour combo.. could be too “tacky granny” otherwise.

I am so on the pink + mint + gold bandwagon. It feels perfect for Spring. I wonder if I’ll like it as much in the Fall though?

    • gemma

Agreed! Maybe keeping the pink and mint more minimal (and in the accessories) is the key.. then you can switch up for darker fuschia and darker neutrals as the weather cools..?

Alright so i love the reference to the Golden Girls! A little bit of South Florida isn’t a bad thing lol! I know in my bedroom I am doing small subtle hints of this. I have light green walls and white crown moulding and very vintage mid century furniture so I have my fingers crossed this will work.

Love it! Let me know how it turns out, Teri :)
