Okay that was the lamest blog post title ever. Forgive me?
My parents have a cottage that is just shy of two hours away from Ottawa. They built it themselves when I was about 3 (well, started the building then – it seems there is a never ending list of projects to do, which is always the case with cottages, isn’t it?!). Anyway, it is a favourite spot and we love to go there to relax, read a good book, and eat way too much. Sleeping space has always been a little bit tight – there is a master bedroom on the second floor, my bedroom which has two twin beds, and a guest room with a double. My Dad built a tent platform a number of years ago where we can sleep additional folks when required, but with the gaggle of grandkids that we have now (and the numbers growing with baby Sprout!), combined with the fact that my Dad now has a great heated workshop at my parents’ house, they have decided to turn my Dad’s cottage workshop into a bunkie. Steps away from the cottage itself and with electricity already, it doesn’t mean any new building — just a retrofit of what is already there.
So while the boys do their construction thang, my Mum and I have been pouring over design ideas. Bunk beds? Definitely. Grey-washed flooring and beadboard walls? You bethcha. Dreaming of aqua ceilings? Yeppers.
As anyone gathering inspiration would do, I started a pinterest board.
Here is what I’ve rounded up so far.
You can’t tell me you don’t love the light, breezy, cozy feeling that these spaces have, right? I’m smitten. Our last cottage trip for this summer was a few weekends ago (I’m a bit nervous to be 2 hours away from home/the hospital at this point), but Mum and I are gathering supplies and plan to knock out this design in the fall — all of which I will definitely share here!
Oh, and if you don’t follow me on Pinterest yet and would like to, just click here!
Have a great weekend, lovelies! Do you happen to be cottaging this weekend? Have any other fun plans? Ever stayed in a bunkie and have any great tips to share? Catch you back here on Monday!
